Backwaters

I wake up starving,
stars stuck like fishbones
in my throat.
I have not eaten
your light for days.

I have been navigating
by gleams and
glimmers in my head,
without maps or channels
to guide me,
becalmed in the backwaters
of my own thoughts
but now dawn delivers me.

Dolphins appear like saints
telling of salvation while
your sun arrives and
sets the waves on fire.
