Light

I just defrosted.
I sit here, a smelly and soggy
lump of fur in the melting tundra,
tossed up, floated to the soil surface.

I have about half a day
before decomposition does me in,
this after a million years dreaming under ice.

Of course, words fled long ago
but there was something
I wanted to remember, to tell you,
something about love,
and how it never really leaves,
even when you’re snagged and buried,
how this light stays inside your head.
