Prayer Beads

The moon hangs on the horizon.
The still dark day is upended
as though tucked in a locker
at some celestial train station
and we’re here ticket-less
in a waiting room without chairs,
hunkering inside one another,
bone to bone,
rubbing voices instead of scent.

Words fall to the floor.
We finger them like prayer beads and
poems blossom in our hands.
